Larien likes to play with water in the bathroom. You've seen a picture. In fact, she likes to play with the water so much that it is now the incentive, the reward for going pee pee in the potty. She understands that she cannot play with water until she has gone to the potty.
Last night we heard her positioning the stool in the bathroom so she could play with the water and the cups. I had my hands full with Finwe so I asked Phill to handle the situation. I heard some mumbling then a small protest and then a loud, scary laugh. The loud, scary laugh was followed by hysterical crying. "Uh, Phill, what did you do?"
"I just told her that she had to go potty. She didn't listen, so I did a scary laugh to get her attention."
"Was it worth all this?" I pointed to the toddler puddled with her blanket still crying pitifully.
"No."
"Don't you think you should apologize for scaring her."
"Okay." We walked over to where Larien was puddled. I told her that Daddy wanted to say something to her.
Larien says, "No!" She looked up at Phill and said, "You ruined my life forever!"
Phill looked at me, "What did she say?" He knew what she had said. He just needed confirmation. I repeated what she said, but very quietly. Her arms were crossed. Her lip was pushed out in a supreme pout, and her brows were knitted together. She was mad, mad, mad. That was all it took for both of us to burst out laughing.
