As a way of giving Larien more one on one time with me, I signed us up for swim lessons. It will be four weeks, each Tuesday in the pool. These half-hour sessions are great. I've done some with Inwe when she was younger, and I did one with Larien this summer at the outdoor pool. What's great is that our gym holds these in the therapy pool. Think warm. Think lovely relaxing water.
The age range of the kids is all the way down to a year up to 3 years of age. It's mostly moms, but there are a few dads. We sing songs, teach them how to kick, swim with their arms, and begin to blow bubbles. Larien is really good a the bubbles part. We also get them to jump into the pool. Obviously the really tiny ones can't, but there's a way to get them used to it as well. The teacher is cheery and knowledgeable. She spends a little bit of time with each kid and mom pair. This will be really good.
A side effect--Larien has done really well of going to the potty.

What to go my little curly-headed one!
I grew up a water bug and have always loved the water. When I was in middle school/9th grade, we lived in a house with a pool in the backyard. One summer, I gave pseudo-swim instruction, helping some of the younger kids on the neighborhood swim team improve their strokes and turn so they wouldn't get DQed. One little guy I worked with was just 3 or 4 and was petrified of the water, so his mom just wanted me to play games with him that would try and get him in the pool. It was so much fun. As a consequence, I love to see parents who get their babes in the water early. Not every kid is going to love the water as much as I do, but at the very least they shouldn't be terrified of it and should have some basic life-saving abilities like treading water and a crawl.
Oh how fun!!! I can't wait to go swimming with Isabelle. We already have a floaty thing my sister gave me. I'm sooo ready!
