I've Created a Monster

Well, two, possibly three, of them. I did have Phill's help, but last night's event he swears is all from my genes.

Yesterday, Larien would not use the potty at all. She filled pull-up after pull-up with copious amounts of pee. Because pull-ups aren't as absorbent as diapers, we also went through two outfits and one cushion cover. By the time the second outfit and cushion cover incident I was done with leaking pull-ups and non-compliant toddlers. I, of course, was a good mother and didn't display my annoyance.

I did tell Larien that I had to put diapers on her so that pee wouldn't get on her blanket while she was sleeping. "I don't want diapers."

"Well, you need to have them on so that you don't get pee on your bed."

"I'm just a little girl." (Don't read too much into this statement. She says this about everything.)

"I know you are a little girl, but if you don't go in the potty the pee pee goes all over the place and then we have to wash your blanket."

"Don't wash my blanket," said Larien with knitted eyebrows and pursed lips.

"Then let's put on diapers." She relented and allowed me to put diapers on her.

Later last night, after all the kids were in bed, I did what I do every night--check on the girls sleeping. (I don't check on Finwe because I don't want him to accidentally wake and want to eat. After all, I'll see him soon enough.) I checked on Inwe, spread-eagled in the middle of her bed, with the princess puppy covered with towels for blankets. I gave her a kiss and moved to Larien's room.

When I opened Larien's door the light was still on. She's decided that she either likes the door open or the light on. It changes depending on her mood for the night. As I looked at Larien I saw her diaper on top of her covers. A wave of panic swept over me. I walked to the bed and lifted the covers. Instead of having a bare bottom Larien had managed to put on a pull-up.

Daisy has insisted on wearing a pull-up at night for several weeks. She's had a few nights of staying dry but the last two nights she has soaked the pull-up, pajamas and blanket!

Mmm, I agree with Phil on this one - that trait has to come from our side of the family - well, maybe mostly from her Aunt Maverick.
