A lie

Phill and I are constantly trying to challenge the palates of Inwe and Larien. Tonight, instead of ordering vegetable fried rice, we ordered pork fried rice. As Phill spooned out a plate for Inwe she said, "I don't like the brown things."

Phill responded, "It's turkey, and you eat turkey."

"Okay." Inwe proceeded to eat the plate of rice. I was busying nursing Finwe, so I didn't actually see her eat any of the meat. When I finally got to the table I saw lots of the pork left on the plate. Inwe really wanted a cookie for dessert. I used that as an incentive to see her eat a cube of the pork.

"Here. Show me that you ate some of this." I held out the small piece. Inwe put it in her mouth and happily chewed.

"It doesn't taste like the turkey Mommy made," was Inwe's comment as she chewed. (I know, talking with food in her mouth!)

Phill laughed, "That's because it isn't turkey. It's pork."

"What? You lied to me?"

Is this what all the books meant by a "Parenting Strategy" ? WaWa will love this one as it was - oddly - not covered in any of our reading materials.
