Do you know your phonics?

I do, but that's how I learned to read. The method I'm using with Megan is the Distar method, which is a lot of phonics, but isn't totally reliant on that method. What I find funny is when Inwe tells Phill about the sounds she learns. I hear her correct Phill on how to sound out the letter.

Here are the sounds she knows as of today:
  • m       mmm        as in ram

  • s         sss          as in bus

  • a        aaa             as in and

  • ē    eee              as in eat

  • t     t       as in cat

  • r     rrr     as in bar

  • d     d     as in mad

  • i     iii     as in if

  • th     ththth     as in this and bathe (not thing)

  • c     c     as in tack

  • o     ooo     as in ox

  • n     nnn     as in pan

  • f     fff     as in stuff

  • u     uuu     as in under

  • l     lll     as in pal

She can draw all those sounds with the exception of the ‘th’. Tomorrow’s sound is w, www, as in wow. Inwe is very excited about that sound.

We have 28 more sounds to learn before our 100 lessons are over. Here are those sounds just listed by commas: g, I, sh, ā, h, k, ō, v, p, ar, ch, ĕ, b, ing, ī, y (as in yard), er, oo, j, wh, y (as in my), ū, qu, x, z, ea, ai, ou.
