Anyone know how to redirect a set of stairs?

Yesterday at lunchtime, Inwe fell down the stairs at our house. She says it was only five stairs. When I got to her after hearing the terrifying sound of a child falling she was face down on the floor. Her left arm was straight out from her body; her right was lying alongside her torso. Her legs were in frog positon with the tops of her feet on the bottom stair.

She started crying immediately, which is a great thing. At least I knew she was conscious. She tried to move, but I kept her from moving so I could make sure her neck was okay. I held her head as steady as I could as I lifted her up and took her to a chair. For a long time I just held her as she wailed. She said to me, "Mommy, I can't stop crying." This made me laugh in relief as I knew she was okay if she was worrying about crying too much. "It's okay, Inwe. Cry as much as you need to," was all I could say to her.

After I knew her head was okay I checked her arms and legs and everywhere else. No problems there. I then felt secure enough to leave her so I could get two bags of ice: one for the goose egg quickly growing on her right temple and the second for her nose that was also beginning to swell.

Where were the other two little ones during all this? Finwe was sleeping and Larien was playing with my neighbor and her daughter. It would have been interesting if my neighbor hadn't been here.

Once the swelling had decreased and Inwe was tired of ice on her head, she told me that her tush hurt. She decided that sitting on the ice would help it. That and some Tylenol helped everything.

She was okay just a few hours after the falling, and the bruise on her temple is obscured by her hair. That is still sore to the touch, but she'll be fine.

To make the situation worse about the stairs, this morning Larien slid down four steps before I caught her. She didn't get hurt at all; she just got a scare. So, I'm now all for calling in an architect and having our steep stairs changed around. I don't know how it could be done, but I would love it. The only one who has not fallen down some part of our stairs is Finwe, and that is only because he can't walk. White Dragon, Sogria, Phill, and I have all fallen at one time during our 5 1/2 years here.

I have done this in DC too. It scared me so bad we moved - I could not imagine being preggers and not being able to see my feet! It just freaked me out.

I think you need an elevator.

Oh how very very scary. I worry about just tripping over my own feet. Good thing we don't have any stairs.
