On Wednesday, all five of us started our road trip to get Phill's mom and travel to Charlotte, NC. Many of you may wonder why we didn't stay at Grandmom's house, as it is not too far from Charlotte, so let me be very nice (and censored) in saying that we all wouldn't fit. We picked up Grandmom, looked a bit at her new peafowl, and took off to the hotel.
On Thursday, we visited Discovery Place so that the girls could play, explore, and have plenty of time to get all the wiggles out from a day of traveling. We nearly didn't get there as Larien decided to completely freak out at breakfast in the hotel restaurant. What made it worse was that she wouldn't let me soothe her fears insisting that only Daddy could come near her. In order to make it through the morning, we allowed her to carry her "little'' blanket around in the museum.
Discovery Place was great for them. There are quite a few things to do: dinosaurs, optical illusions, aquariums, a under six years of age discovery place, and a few other things that we didn't get to experience. The girls were just soooo tired. The favorite part was the air chair, a chair that lifted the child up in the air using a vacuum pump. Inwe had to get in many times. The next favorite part were the tanks of fish, coral, eels, and crabs. Phill and I got tired of lifting up children to see the tanks (why did this excellent place for children not have a stepping level for the little ones?). Of course the girls enjoyed the hands on child place.
Thursday night, VetKelly came to visit. Did my children have any shyness around one of my dearest friends? Not a bit. Both of them were talking and jumping on her like she was their old friend. We had a good evening with her. My daughters always seem to be enamoured with my Sigma Kappa sisters.
Friday found us at Phill's uncle's house. Inwe instantly engaged Uncle Jim in a conversation. It is beautiful to watch Inwe talk to people. Uncle Jim had a smile plastered to his face the entire time. Larien didn't warm to Uncle Jim, but had no problem interacting with Aunt Patricia. We had a failed trip to the NC Transportation Museum; it was closed for the holidays, but this was something I did not notice on the website before we left. The girls took it well and napped on the way back to the hotel.
Carowinds was just 5 mintues down the highway from us. We planned to be there all five hours, and we were. The girls rode the kiddie rides; Inwe rode a few with Phill that Larien couldn't ride. Finwe and I hung out together, watched, and took pictures. We looked at the lovely light displays, did some crafts, and ate a buffet dinner of turkey, ham, corn, green beans, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy. The girls had pumpkin pie for dessert. The girls really ate a lot. I think it was due to the cold weather and the walking around the amusement park.
We took Grandmom back to her house on Saturday morning and drove back to Cville. Inwe cried when we left Grandmom. Larien didn't appear to mind. She was ready to get back to her own bed and her Care Bear collection. The only resistance she displayed that night was getting a bath and having her hair brushed. Inwe jumped right into the bath and sat so very still while I brushed out the numerous tangles in her hair. She was so ready for Santa to come. She even spread "reindeer attractant", made of oatmeal and glitter, on the ground outside the house. The glitter is to reflect light so the reindeer have a landing spot; the oatmeal is for the smell to bring them to your house. She got this from preschool. I took a picture; it's below.
