Today, April 8th, is my birthday. The girls sang to me and then wanted to make me a cake, "With your help, Mommy."
So, we made a cake. Inwe and Larien helped mix the dry and wet ingredients, even holding the hand mixer for a full two minutes. Finwe watched in the background. After the batter was poured into the cake pan, the girls licked the beaters. That was a mess, but a fun one.
We overfilled the cake pan, so the cooking time was much longer than we had planned. That meant that at 8pm we were frosting the cake with pink icing. The pink was not my choice; that was Inwe's request. "You're a girl, Mommy. You have to have pink icing."
After the girls got all the frosting on the cake Larien requested that I have candles. Inwe said, "Only five, Mommy. If we put all 35 on the cake we would have to stick them in the sides as well." (Out of the mouths of babes, huh?)When all the candle were lit, Larien blew out three of them. Inwe had me light them again so I could blow them out after they sang to me. I did. They sang. Larien still helped blow out the candles.
While I sliced the cake I told the girls that milk goes really well with cake and icing. I poured each of us a glass of milk. When I was pouring mine I caught Larien pouring her milk on the cake. I stopped her before she flooded the whole cake. She really thought I mean that the milk went on the cake--not in her mouth after a bite of cake. Very cute mistake.
So, we have lots of cake left over. Anyone want to drop by tomorrow. I just bought some organic, fair trade coffee that Inwe says tastes "quite good". Larien says, "Mmm. That's tasty."

It's lovely!
Mango and I went shopping yesterday and found something we thought you would like but then we put it back. We were so indecisive! We were looking at jewerly for her for like...two hours...and she tried on a bunch of stuff and we left with nothing. It was so funny. I told her that you received the "best gift ever" and that I was having a hard time even coming close to it. When we got home, the guys were floored that we could even spend the money we had on us. We are just basically not that in to shopping right now, nothing looks right, and there is nothing hitting our fancy. So you have no gift but we spent a whole bunch of time thinking about you and talking about you and carrying potential gifts around. So you did get a bundle of our time and energy. we just could find nothing that exactly said we were feeling: We love you!
Happy belated birthday!
