Today was Larien's swim lesson. I put Finwe in the kids' zone, got Larien and I dressed, and stepped into the pool. We were five minutes into the group lesson with the substitute teacher when the lifeguards called my name. Finwe was having a fit, and I needed to come help out. I began to tell Larien that we had to go when the teacher interrupted, "I'll finish the lesson with her so you can deal with your baby." I must have looked startled because the teacher said it again.
"Well, okay," I said to the teacher. I turned to Larien and asked, "Do you want to finish the class without Mommy?"
"I want to swim to her," Larien replied as she began paddling and kicking to the teacher. Larien didn't even worry that I was walking out of the pool.
I dried off, changed clothes, and headed to the kids' zone where I found a screaming Finwe. He wouldn't nurse. He didn't want to rock. He didn't want anything. I walked him outside. I walked him through the gym. Finally, I made my way back to the pool where the noise and splashing and kids calmed him. I watched the last five minutes of class.
Larien was in no mood to leave the pool. I ended up carrying each kid around the waist as they were perched sideways on my hips. In the locker room, the other moms told me how wonderful and cheerful Larien was during the class. That made me feel good. At least she had a good experience today.
Our gym has a comments jar. I'm definitely going to put in some kudos for that swim teacher. She didn't have to do what she did. That's going beyond my expectations.

That is absolutely wonderful that she did that. Nice to know that there are good people in this world.
