To Challenge a Friend

Tonight the family and I met up with TWAPilot and TopDirtyDog and their two sons for dinner. Our senior director for Mary Kay, Keys, was there as well. Dinner was great--Mexican. At the end of dinner was a bit of chaos.

I was holding Finwe who was fussy and tired.
Keys was in the ladies' room.
TWAPilot was paying with Findarato by her side.
Phill was paying our part of the bill with Inwe by his side.
TopDirtyDog (TDD) was watching Cirdan and Larien.

In the midst of all the restaurant noise I hear, "I have to go potty!" My eyes catch the only adult not in the midst of anything horribly important.

"TDD! You take her!"

TDD is bewildered. However uncomfortable he was at the time, he followed orders. "Larien, come with me," he said. He calls over his shoulder, "It's all in the same place right?"

As I think to myself, Is he a total amateur? I answer, "Yes." Then the fact that he is the father of two boys dawns on me. If I were asked to take one of his sons to the potty I would have no idea what to do either. And then I think, OMG, I'm going to have to teach a boy to go potty!

When TDD returns he comes next to me and says, "I'm supposed to wipe right?"

"Uh, yeah. Well, she can do it."

"Because I've never done that before. Did you realize that?"

"No. And, thank you very much."

*****It was the men's room.*****

Hah! I always talked about this with the woman I nannied for -- how do you teach little boys to pee standing up. In her house, it seems the men had just been subjugated in this arena -- her husband peed sitting down, so that's how her boys would learn.

Which bathroom did TDD take Larien? Men's room or ladies room?

I am laughing my butt off! My husband had to read a children's book to a little girl when we first met. The little girl was the daughter of my good friend. She was maybe 3 and was being potty trained. The book she picked was a potty book that USED ALL THE EMBARASSING BUT ACCURATE TERMINOLOGY. We were only dating at the time and boy was he pink from reading that book in front of one teenager and four adults including his soon to be mother-in-law. But he was champ and earned the love of all!
