Time for Bed

After reading three very fun books to Inwe, Larien, and Finwe, it was time for bed. Inwe jumped right up from our circle in the hallway (Yeah, yeah, the hallway. Don't ask. I'll explain another time.) to climb into her bed. I looked at Larien and said, "Come on, sweetie. Let's go."

"Noooooooooo!" was followed by a dramatic flop backwards on top of the blanket on the floor. "I don't wanna go to bed."

"Well, it's time. Look at Inwe." I pointed at Inwe sitting in her bed arranging the covers. "She's already in her bed."

"Nooooo!" was accompanied by flailing arms and kicking legs.

I stood up, holding Finwe, and said, "Okay. Sleep in the hallway. I'm going to change Finwe's diaper and get him to sleep." I started down the stairs, locked the gate at the top of the stairs, and didn't even look behind me. (Phill was indisposed. You figure out where he was.)

While downstairs I heard a little bit more whining and then nothing. As I nursed Finwe I heard Inwe whispering from atop the stairs. "Mommy! Mommmmmiiiieeeee!"

I couldn't answer her because if I did Finwe would stop nurisng, deciding that it wasn't bedtime at all but play time. I had to be quiet. After a few more "Mommy"s I heard Inwe's door close and then the sounds of Phill reading Harry Potter to her.

Twenty minutes later Phill joined me downstairs. "Inwe put Larien to bed."

"She what?"

"Inwe put Larien to bed. She was calling you to tell you what she did."

"Oh, well, I'll have to give her a big hug in the morning for that."

****Update*****

I asked Inwe this morning how she got her to bed. Inwe told me that Larien followed her easily with no crying or whining. Inwe helped her into her bed, kissed her, and closed the door.

My favorite thing about putting my sisters to bed was kissing them through the slats of their crib. I also woke them up in the mornings once I figured out how to get the crib thing down.
