We have a jumper

Swim lesson for Larien today. It was a substitute teacher who wasn't very organized, so Larien and I did our own thing.

This meant a few things to Larien.
  1. swimming to the wall from me
  2. swimming from the wall to me
  3. sitting on the edge of the pool and launching herself at me
  4. swimming across the pool with me holding her hips for optimal kicking
  5. going underwater
  6. jumping off the side of the pool
With the jumping and launching, she kept telling me, "Move far away, please." By the time she was jumping off the side of the pool, she was going so far under that her feet touched the bottom about 3 1/2 feet down.

With her wild behavior last Friday at the pool I was reconsidering the teacher's recommendation that Larien move up to the next level. However, she was very controlled today. I think part of it was due to the goggles she wore. She wasn't preoccupied with wiping her eyes, so she paid more attention to swimming. I wonder how Inwe will feel taking swim lessons with her sister?

I can't wait until our pool opens so me and little chief can start swimming. She is the only one that will go with me.

I had to learn early on that little sister would eventually be involved in seemingly everything I did (including, as it happens, swimming). I didn't always enjoy it or appreciate it, but I lived with it. I distinctly remember feeling like she "stole" every experience from me, especially since she was the cuter, funnier, more noticeable one. But now, we have more memories to share as adults.

Molly--found a maternity bathing suit for you that wasn't with the other clothes. I'll send it on.

Liz--I too did everything my big sis did. Larien wants to take tennis lessons, but she's too young. That has to have something to do with younger sisters wanting to emulate their older sisters--we have to wait so long!
