I am just not sure how my parents made it through the whole drama of the dance recital. Two daughters, a few years with three costumes, frantic dance teachers, dress rehearsal, the night of the show. Really, Mom, Dad, how did you do it?
I ask because Inwe will be participating in the Spring performance for her dance school. We missed her class last week because of my scheduling flub. When we walked into the dance school yesterday the teacher called out, "Inwe! Oh, I was sooo worried!" To say I was taken aback at her extreme concern is an understatement. The teacher shoved the costume at me, "Well, get her in it. She needs to practice in it this week. Bow directly on top of the head. Well, go on." She shooed us off with her hands.
Having done plenty of dance numbers I understand the need to practice in costumes, but these little girls wear practice leotards and gauzy skirts all the time. They aren't going to trip over, say a really long skirt or have the bangles of a tap costume get in the way as they shuffle off to Buffalo. My concern as a mom was that Inwe was going to rip her costume in class.
The title is "Teddy Bear Ballet" for her dance. She got a pink costume with a hair bow and a teddy bear. She wasn't really excited about the costume, but she was quite pleased that she could bring the bear home.
What really excited her? She gets to wear makeup, "and Daddy won't be mad about it."

I wonder if it's the same costume as Rosie. It's pink with a pink bow and in the catalog picture the girl is holding a teddy bear. I can't remember the exact name of the song - it's something about dancing with my doll in the pale moonlight.
I didn't dance when I was little so this is my first experience with the whole thing. I asked Rosie if she wants to dance next year or play soccer in the fall (with four kids we've made the rule of only thing at a time per child.) As of right now she says she wants to play soccer. She wants a pink soccer ball...
I read the excerpt of your contact with "The" dance teacher with some justified satisfaction. I'm assuming this is the same teacher who pounced on me the day I collected Inwe from a normal dance class not a near dress rehearsal. I'm begining to like this dance teacher, has she ever met Jack Bauer?
Dad
Dad-
Yes, this is the same teacher as the potty incident way back in October. As I have watched two of the dance classes with this teacher in charge, I can say that she must model her behavior after Jack Bauer.
