I sat down knowing what I wanted to write about today and as I lifted my hands to the keyboard my mind went blank. It was as if all the cute stories of the morning vanished into the abyss that is my mind.
I keep trying to pull out those stories, but all I can remember are these mundane and not so interesting tidbits:
I got to sleep into 7am this morning! Well, Ursa woke me at 5:50am to chase rabbits outside. And, I won’t tell if you won’t—when Ursa came in I let her get on the bed so I could eek out some precious more sleep. Phill never reads my blog, so he’ll never know. He’s away on business in DC.
Inwe woke me this way. “Mama, Mama, come here! I have to show you something!” She says she saw a hot air balloon, but I never saw it. I think she imagined it just to see how quickly I would get to her room.
Inwe brought some of our home grown strawberries to her school today. Apparently, she gave two to each child in her class. The berries were part of snack today.
Larien helped me with a post office errand today. She pushed the buttons on the automatic shipping kiosk, saying, “buttons”, and “numbers” the entire time.
Oh, I remember one of the stories!!!!
After my daily trip to the gym, I decided to get a cup of coffee, decaf with plenty of half & half. Since spending a week with my parents, Larien knows what coffee is. I’m pretty sure my mother drank it out of a china cup, but whenever she sees me drinking out of a to go cup she says, “Coffee.” Perhaps she is identifying it by smell.
Anyway, when we returned home I put the coffee (about half full) on the counter and went outside with Larien and the dogs. Larien looked at me with her head cocked to the side, “Be back.” She toddled inside and brought back the cup of coffee. “Drink it, Mommy. Coffee.” So, instead of leaving the drink inside while I played with Larien, I had the coffee cup. Whenever I would leave it behind, say at the sandbox, the fishpond, or in the middle of the strawberry patch, someone would bring it back to me.
Did you notice that I said someone? That’s because if Larien didn’t bring the cup to me, Ursa would. Of course each time one of them picked up the cup either a sip or a lick would be taken out of it. The last creature to have the cup was Ursa. Larien would have none of that.
Picture this, if you would: a white, 60 pound shepherd puppy carrying a grande Starbucks cup by the lip of the lid as she trots under fruit trees and up a gentle slope, followed by a dark blonde, 20 month old toddler with arms outstretched, yelling, “COFFEE. COFFEE.”
