Trip to the Movies

There are days when so much happens that I can't log it fast enough. Yesterday was one of those days. The girls also have slow days when not much happens, so I'm hoping a few of the days will be like that this week in order for me to catch up with the reportable events.

Phill really enjoys taking Inwe to the movies. It was last summer when Inwe watched her first film in the big theater. It was Shrek 2. We try to take her to a movie every few months when there is a suitable kid film offered. For her third birthday, Phill and I took Inwe to see The Polar Express (Larien stayed home with T). That was a great experience for me. She sat on my lap the entire time (much to my legs' dismay) and moved with the train across plains, up and down mountains, and sliding on the ice. I was exhausted afterwards from explaining and comforting and holding on to Inwe during the more dramatic parts.

Sunday, Phill and Inwe went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. (As parents, we saw this film a few weeks ago and determined Inwe could handle it.) Apparently the beginning was rather slow for Inwe, but as soon as the kids entered the chocolate factory she was completely attentive. I do think Inwe missed the message of the movie as she liked Violet Beauregard the best. (Shouldn't she like Charlie the best?) She did not like the scene with the squirrels determining that Veruca Salt was a bad nut. (This is very effective when in stores Inwe repeatedly says "I want".) She was quite concerned about Augustus Gloop in the chocolate river, and found the tiny Mike Teevee funny.

Perhaps the best tidbit that Inwe revealed to us yesterday after the movie is that she thought Willie Wonka was a girl. We laughed, which made her concerned.

"On Inwe, it's okay that you thought Willie was a girl. The character was meant to be ambiguous." (Yes, we did use that word.)

"So, Willie is a boy's name?"

"Yes."

"Oh, don't name my baby brother that."

"Okay."
