After getting Inwe and Larien to bed last night, we let The White Dragon inside from her normal outside evening play session. She usually chases bunnies or attempts to catch moles. Occasionally she tries to bring in a rock or two. Last night, however, we got a big surprise. She smelled like skunk. Like she had gotten directly sprayed by skunk. Luckily, we had some Skunk Off under the sink. We sprayed the entire bottle on her and discovered there were more spots. A call to our neighbors, Loquatia and Perfection Man, soon had another bottle in our hands.
Picture this: two adults and a one year old shepherd/lab puppy trying to be as quiet as they could as they removed skunk smell in the bathroom down the hallway from two sleeping girls. I'm not sure how, but we did not wake the girls.
Were we successful? Yes, fortunately the products on the market do what they advertise to get the smell off the dog. The collar did not survive, so The White Dragon has a new, Inwe approved funky collar of orange, purple, and pink. Since the skunk spraying happened in our yard we are still smelling a bit of the odor in and around the house. It is slowly disappearing. House deodorizers are a must today.
According to our veternarian there are two kinds of dogs who chase skunks:
- Those who learn the first time.
- Those who never learn or never care to learn.
Which one will The White Dragon turn out to be?
