The girls got flu shots today. It was funny for me and not so much for them. The nurse and I were laughing qutie a bit. It was that nervous laughter when you know the person wasn't really hurt.
Inwe was really great about being the older sister. She said she would get her shot first so she could set a good example for Larien. I had talked to her about the procedure of getting a vaccine so she was well prepared. She even pulled up her pant leg (Halloween themed stretchy pants, much to my dismay) for the nurse. She didn't cry at all--just a quick "Ow!"
Larien was next. She nicely settled herself on the bed while I pulled her pants down a bit to expose her thigh. I held her hands and talked her through it. "You are going to feel something cold. Did you feel it? Now you are going to feel a little poke." The rest of what I said was drowned out as Larien wailed very loudly when she got her shot. As I was consoling her Inwe began bawling. That's when the nurse and I really lost it. Inwe was just crying because Larien was crying.
I left Larien (still crying) to worry over Inwe and attempt to calm her. "Inwe, you'll be okay. It didn't hurt that much, plus your shot is over." No effect. "Inwe, if you stop crying I'll get you something special to make you feel better." Instant effect. Inwe milked it for all it was worth saying, "It hurt really bad, and it still hurts. Can we get a cinnamon roll?" Somewhere in all this Larien had recoverd and was halfway down the hall to get to the art table in the waiting room.
We got a cinnamon roll to ease the pain (which didn't exist by the time we got it), and promptly forgot to go by Walmart or Target to get a lunch box (only Princess) since Megan is now eating lunch at school per her request. She's also requested to go to school all five days instead of just four. Phill and I will do this starting in January.
